Children’s Centre Strategy ‘Completing the Circle’
Childcare Sufficiency Assessement
The childcare Act 2006 places new duties on Local Authorities to “manage the childcare market and ensure sufficiency of childcare”.
As a result of this Harrow has conducted an audit of registered childcare provision accross the borough to develop a more detailed understanding the the local market.
A summary of the Key findings and recommendations are available here
The full report can be downloaded here with appendices or viewed at your local library, children’s centre or at the Families Information Service 020 8416 8416.
Our service’s Action Plan
A news sheet to report the views of children and young people aged between 5 and 10 years in Harrow has been produced.
Two schools were visited in October 2007 to ask children and young people what they thought about the different types of childcare in the borough, and what they wanted to use in the future.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to take part and for telling us what you think. We hope that you find the results interesting. Please let us know!

Harrow Bookstart Programme
Part of the national programme, Harrow Bookstart encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with children from as early an age as possible. We want every child in Harrow to develop a lifelong love of books. Bookstart gives the gift of free books to children at around eight months, 18 months and three years, along with guidance materials for parents and carers. Bookstart also aims to foster a love of books through a range of fun activities. But Bookstart packs are only half of the gift to children and their families. The other, more lasting gift is the message of enjoying books together.
If you live in Harrow and would like to know more about how to get your free Bookstart Pack call Heather Prior on 020 8427 1267.
